Piano 1:1 lessons for Children (Grade 1-8)

Keys to Success: Your Child's Piano Journey

We offer a well-structured piano journey designed to set students up for long-term success.

Stage 1: BEGINNERS - Group Piano Classes
All beginners start with our fun and engaging Group Piano. After completing the program, they switch to private 1:1 lessons.

Stage 2: ABRSM GRADE 1 to 8 - Private 1:1 Lessons

Private lessons are available for students from ABRSM Grade 1 up to Grade 8, for ages 5 and above. Lessons are tailored to each child and include technique, music reading, improvisation, composition, scales, rhythm, music theory, performance skills, and more, ensuring a well-rounded musical education.

Unlike many music tuition providers, we don’t just teach exam pieces. We prioritise full musicianship and strong foundations - no shortcuts and no “fast-tracking” at the expense of core skills. Students learn a broad, well-balanced repertoire at their level.

We proudly maintain a 100% ABRSM success rate, with students regularly achieving Merits and Distinctions. Exams are encouraged for those who want certification, but remain optional.

ABRSM Graded Examinations

We follow the ABRSM syllabus for Grades 1–8, covering pieces, scales, sight‑reading, and aural skills. Exams are optional, with two formats:

  • Practical Grades (in-person): Perform 3 pieces, plus scales, sight-reading, and aural tests
  • Performance Grades* (online): Submit a video of 4 pieces.

Scores out of 150: 100 to pass, 120 for Merit, 130 for Distinction.

Higher grades require more commitment. From Grade 2+, we recommend 60‑minute weekly lessons. To progress to Grades 6–8, passing Grade 5 Music Theory is mandatory.

* Even for Performance Grades, we still teach scales, sight‑reading, and aural skills for a well rounded music education.

Building Strong Musical Foundations

While exams can be a valuable milestone, we believe they should never be the sole purpose of learning. They are simply one way to assess progress, not the goal itself.

Unlike some music providers that operate as “exam factories” and skip essential foundations, we don’t limit teaching to exam pieces alone. Doing so can restrict the development of broader musicianship skills such as fluent sight-reading, playing by ear, improvisation, and composition, and more.

Our students learn to truly read music and build skills that last a lifetime. We also do not “fast track” pupils through grades at the expense of strong, secure technique or understanding. That said, we happily support students who wish to take exams, teaching all grades from 1 to 8, and are proud to maintain a 100% pass rate, with the majority of students achieving Merits and Distinctions.
